It's a really unique place | ||
Cañones is a hidden valley in Northern New Mexico. It sits in the shadow of
Pedernal
Pedernal (more art), and thus
has it's own little microclimate. There is an active local population, generations of which have lived in
this valley for hundreds of years. They are decended from the original indigenous Indian population
and the early Spanish settlers.
Several important and huge ruins exist nearby
Stone working flakes and pottery shards abound all over the area.
Water is one of the things that make this area special - there are numerous springs that feed two local creeks, Polvadera Creek which runs through our land before joining with Cañones Creek. Nearby Abique reservoir is the destination.
