50th Reno Air Races

Reno's 50th Running of the Air Races.

Acoma Pueblo

Here're a couple of photos of the Acoma Pueblo, in Acoma, New Mexico. This pueblo is also know as "sky city", as it is built upon a mesa top as protection against other indian tribes. The pueblo is one of the oldest continously inhabited places in the US.

Big Fish

Don't tell PETA, but we like to do a little fishing now and then. Here's one memorable trip that fed us for a month!

2004 Moffett Field Air Show

Here're some fancy airplanes!

Mt. Dana, Toulomne Meadows

One of many hiking trips, this one to Toulomne Meadow's Mt. Dana.

Dizzy Land

Thuy's birthday trip.

This great trip included Kennedy Space Center and Daytona Beach.

I enjoyed this trip a lot, too, which surprised me. Part of the key was going mid-week to avoid the crowds (although it was still busy, it wasn't a mad house).

Mt. Rainier, Washington State

This is one of my favorite places of all time.

Sausalito, California

Thuy took a day trip with a few of her work mates at the time.

Yosemite Lodge, Yosemite NP, California

Another fun episode in beautiful Yosemite National Park.

Lake Tahoe, California

In '03 we got snowed in for a "white christmas". The skiing was great, a real switch from the usual "sierra cement". Unfortunately, good skiing is a rarity here - if the snow isn't rained on and then frozen, then the crowds are boorish to obnoxious. Winter ski mountaineering is the way to go these days, but you don't get a lot of runs in! Check back later for some pictures.

Salt Lake City, Utah

In spite of firm aetheist convictions, it's hard not to appreciate the great lengths the locals go to decorate their cathedral. Here're some amazing photos of their handiwork: Mormon Temple at Christmas.

The snow was a bit thin, so the powderhounds were whining, but still the dynamic duo made the most of it! See here, here, and here.

Northern California, 2007

More vacation photos; this time of fun at Lake Tahoe, Horsetail Falls and San Francisco.

Moab, Utah, 2008

Hotter'n hell here in the epicenter of LDS churchdom. Er, strike that - Moab is a pretty hip little spot, and you almost forget you are in Utah. A couple of miles out of town is Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.

Bring plenty of water if you're, uh, dumb enough to visit in July, like we did!

Banff, Canada, 2008

Fun at Banff National Park, Canada.. You fly in to Calgary, then an easy 50 minute drive puts you right in the middle of the incredible Canadian Rockies. Grizzlies, epic-routes, clouds of mosquitoes and generally otherwise out-of-this world adventures await.

Next time we're going to try this in winter for the ice climbs, skiing and winter mountaineering. That is if the USD ever gets a reasonable footing back. International travel, even to our friendly next-door neighbors, is not for the faint of heart (or light of wallet!).
